bat n4

bat n4 [Cf the technical sense “slab of wet clay prepared for molding”]

= cat n 4.

2004 Marler Reflections on Life 5 cLA (as of 1930s), A hole was dug in the yard and into this hole was put clay and Spanish Moss and then water was added. Someone got down in the mud and made bats from the moss and mud. These were pieces of clay formed into a shape like a small loaf of bread. The bats were passed to a person at the chimney who “daubed” them onto the frame.
