Accessing the Dictionary

The Dictionary of American Regional English was originally published by the Harvard University Press in six paper volumes (1985-2013, still in print) and then in an online edition (launched in 2013) with ongoing revisions and updates.

For full access to the online edition you need to have a personal subscription or log in through a subscribing institution. Personal subscriptions are $49 a year; institutional subscriptions are priced on a sliding scale, and the Press has recently restructured the pricing to make DARE much more affordable for smaller institutions, with special rates for public libraries and secondary schools (see details below). If you think your library should subscribe to DARE, suggest it to your librarian! (And note that the Press offers free trial subscriptions to  nonprofit institutions.)
