1890 Daily Herald (Grand Forks ND) [16 June 3]/5, [Advt:] 1 Straw Bucking pole. 1903 Breeder’s Gaz. 44.170 SD, The “bucking pole” is a favorite device in this section. In its simplest form it is a pole about six inches in diameter and from 15 to 20 feet long. Holes are bored through this pole at intervals of about one foot and smaller poles about two inches in diameter and eight or 10 feet long are inserted in the holes so that they extend an equal distance on either side of the main pole. The ends of these small poles are sharpened and they serve as “teeth” for the “bullrake,” or bucking pole, as it is called. 1904 Alta Advt.
