DARE Needs Your Help
On the heels of our recent triumphs, DARE is experiencing a serious financial crisis. The situation is the result of a number of factors: we were not awarded some federal and private grants we had anticipated receiving; private gifts have declined precipitously; a major foundation that has provided a large gift annually for twenty years has decided it must move on to other worthy projects; the UW has endured grave reductions in state support, and the College of Letters and Science is unable to provide assistance.
This leaves us in a very distressing situation, in which I have been obligated by University personnel rules to send layoff notices to the whole staff as of July 1, 2013. But the electronic edition is scheduled to launch late this year! We would greatly appreciate your help in making sure we reach this huge milestone.
Joan Houston Hall, Chief Editor
Gifts to DARE should be sent to:
c/o University of Wisconsin Foundation
P.O. Box 78807
Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807
Please make your check out to DARE/UW Foundation or to Frederic G. Cassidy DARE Fund. The gifts are deposited in Milwaukee but then credited to the appropriate account by the financial folks at the UW Foundation. (One reminder: this address is only for gifts. Other types of correspondence should not be sent to this address.)
Deferred gifts are also very much appreciated. Please contact DARE's Development Specialist, Jon Sorenson, by e-mail or at (608) 262-7211 with any questions concerning contributions to the Dictionary of American Regional English. Thank you very much for your interest and support.
